What is Open Loop?
Open Loop is a global program that connects policymakers and technology companies to help develop effective and evidence-based policies around AI and other emerging technologies. The program, initiated and supported by Meta, builds on the collaboration and contributions of a consortium composed of regulators, governments, tech businesses, academics and civil society representatives. Through experimental governance methods, Open Loop members co-create policy prototypes and test new and different approaches to laws and regulations before they are enacted, improving the quality of rulemaking processes in the field of tech policy.
As always, it started with a creative idea – in this case an anagram with a bunch of colorful letters on a sketch pad. Three months later a bold, fun and explorative identity had emerged – simple in its execution but able to encapsulate the essence of the project: How to bridge the gap between tech and regulatory policies.
The logo is the foundation of the identity and the graphic universe surrounding it. It draws on the legacy and playfulness of design greats like Alan Fletcher, Pentagram and Saul Bass – turning the unusual contrast between “something boring like policy-making” and colorful design into a clever collaboration.
The trust and courage shown by the client was a huge factor throughout – allowing the design team to fulfill the creative vision both online and in print.
The outstanding motion graphics are done by the lovely Jacob Blaabjerg Svahn ❤️
